What Karot keeps about sellers and buyers, who sees it, and how to have it deleted.
If you sell
We keep your name, WhatsApp number, your email if you give it, emirate, what you tell us about your item and the photos you add. If you accept an offer, we also keep the pickup address if you choose a pickup, a copy of your Emirates ID as the law on precious metals requires, and the bank details we pay you to. Before we store a photo we remove the location your phone records inside it. If you came from an ad or a link, we note which one. We keep a log of the emails and texts we send you.
If you buy
We keep your name or business name, your trade licence number if you give it, WhatsApp number, the emirates you buy in, your email address, and the photos of your trade licence and Emirates ID if you send them. Only Karot staff see the documents.
Who sees what
Buyers see your item, its photos, your emirate, any note you add and your answers to their questions, never your name or number. Karot takes the item in and deals with the buyer, so sellers and buyers never get each other's details.
Who we share it with
Only the services that run Karot: Google (Firebase, which hosts the site, signs you in and stores your details in the region), Resend for email and, once switched on, Twilio for text messages. None of them may use your details for anything else.
Counting visits
We count how many visitors reach each question, so we can make the site easier to use. The count has no names, numbers or cookies in it, and can't be traced back to you.
How long we keep it
For as long as your item or account is on Karot, and after that only as long as the law requires us to keep a record of a sale.
Deleting your details
Ask us at any time and we will delete your details, photos and documents included, unless the law requires us to keep a record of a sale you made through Karot.
Measuring ads
If you arrived from a Facebook or Instagram ad and then send your details, we tell Meta that a lead happened, so we can see which ads work. We send a scrambled (hashed) form of your phone number and the click reference from the ad, never your name or what you told us about your item. Meta uses them only to match the lead to the ad. No Meta cookies or scripts run on this site.
Cookies and ads
With your consent, Google's advertising and analytics cookies run on this site. They tell us which ads and pages bring people to Karot, and let us show Karot ads to people who visited. Choose "No thanks" on the notice and no Google cookie is set. You can change your choice at any time with the button below.
